At South Western High School and throughout our entire district, we live by the credo that there are three critical components to each student’s academic success: the child, the teacher and the parent.
As a parent, you undoubtedly want what’s best for your child. We share the same desire. That’s why it’s so important to partner together in the education process.
According to the national Parent Teachers’ Association, the two main reasons for parental involvement are as follows:
- Supportive involvement (as opposed to pressure) increases the probability of academic success
- Parent involvement via volunteerism contributes directly to goal and program support
Additional data reinforces the importance of parental involvement in academic success, indicating that parents as primary educators are integral in their child’s learning. Furthermore, research has shown that when parents are involved in their children’s education, those students tend to complete homework more consistently, achieve higher grades and test scores and have better attendance.
Finally, students whose parents are involved in their educational lives boast higher graduation rates and greater college enrollment rates. You want your child to succeed, both in his or her current academic pursuits as well as in future life. The entire staff at South Western High School shares that very same goal. Working together, we can help your student achieve academic success and prepare him or her to lead a healthy, happy and productive life.
