Due to COVID-19 and the desire to protect our students and staff, the SWSD school breakfast and lunch programs will be going cashless starting at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. All payments for breakfasts and lunches-will be made through SchoolCafe ( per South Western School Districts Health & Safety Plan for reopening schools. This is a preventative measure put in place to minimize the transmission of the coronavirus. SchoolCafe allows payments to be made from your checking account, credit and/or debit card. For anyone needing further assistance, please contact the food service department (at 717-632-2500 ext. 20105).

Effective immediately, please utilize SchoolCafe ( to make any payments for your students' breakfast and lunch account. The district understands that there is a fee for this service but the district will pay the $1.95 service fee for the upcoming 2020/2021 school year.

SchoolCafe is a one stop shop for students and parents used by South Western School District food service programs not only to make online payments, but also to apply for free & reduced priced meals, to view all district menus including carbohydrate counts, and to view other nutritional information on the daily meals. Students may also use the interactive "make a tray" meal plate and mark their favorite meals and participate in surveys.

For those students who wish to pack, please make sure you are bringing the necessary items for your meal consumption including: utensils, condiments and/or dishes. For those students purchasing a meal, all items will be provided in a throw-away container with all condiments and utensils in your meal package. Going to a limited number of meal choices, from 13 daily to 2 to 4, will be different but we are hoping the menu reflects the voice of many students, as we will be serving the most popular items along with new veggie salads and/or fruit choices. As always, students can provide feedback to the food service staff, of items they like and/or dislike or hope to see in the future. Currently, I am planning on holding our traditional holiday meals-on November 18th and December 16th. Please check our social media for all updates in food services through Twitter @SWSDFood and our Facebook page at SWSD Food Services.

Beginning at the start of the 2020-21 school year and until conditions change, there will be no self-service food options available to students and staff including: condiment bars, salad bars or share tables. All foods and/or beverages will be handed to the students from a food service worker to prevent cross contamination. A la Carte items for middle school and high school students will be limited in choices, and only offered once we have successfully implemented the changes to the food service program, and have adjusted to our new style of service. Once choices become available, those students will be able to make their selection from items offered.

Again, the new food service procedures and safeguards including: going to all online, cashless payment system, varying serving styles and eliminating self service, are designed to help prevent any students or staff from spreading the corona virus and to keep everyone safe and healthy. If you have any questions, please reach out to the food service director, Crystal Gauss, (717) 632-2500 x20105 or crystal
