Summer School

Credit Recovery – Stay on track for graduation!

Our traditional summer school program allows students to recover graduation credit. Teacher supervised work time in a computer lab is available Monday through Thursday each week at South Western High School from 8 am to 12 pm. Students will need to complete a total of 36 hours for each course attempted. Attending the on-campus work sessions are NOT required but is highly encouraged. Summer school may, however, be completed entirely online. Students may also finish their course before August 2.   Sorry, there are NO refunds if students do not complete their required hours.

Students will complete their course after logging 36 hours with a 70% or better overall grade average and will be reported as SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED/PASSED to their school district.   Students taking two courses will be required to complete 72 total hours (36 hours in each course).

Students may also complete the entire assigned online course with a grade of 60% or better and their % grade will then be reported to their school district.

Cost: $175 per course or two for $300

Summer Academy

This program allows students to spend some time over the summer:

  • Learning to be a more independent, self-directed, lifelong learner
  • Learning to better self-assess their current knowledge and skills, strengths and weaknesses
  • Learning to set goals and work towards them under the guidance of a learning coach
  • Previewing the content of courses they plan to take in the fall
  • Filling in any gaps in their understanding from previously completed courses
  • Maintaining the knowledge and skills from the previous school year – use it so you don’t lose it over summer break!
  • Preparing to take important exams like the SAT or Pennsylvania State Keystone exams

The Academy is a new approach to teaching and learning in that students work with a teacher (serving as a learning coach) to establish goals and then use individualized computer-based instruction to work towards them at their own pace. Their performance data is monitored by the learning coach, who is also available for face to face assistance at SWHS or anytime through email. Students do not earn any credit for these courses, so we can be very flexible.

The Academy program is held each year in July. Students are expected to meet with their teacher learning coach at the beginning of the program to set goals, develop a personalized schedule, and be introduced to the software used. Students are then expected to check in with their learning coach at least once per week. Students may work at home or in a supervised computer lab at SWHS. SWSD teachers are available to help our Academy students Monday – Thursday each week in July from 8 to 12 at South Western High School.

Cost: $50 per student for a whole month – up to 4 courses.
