The opportunity to have served the students of the South Western Community over the past ten years, both as a principal and assistant principal, is something Dr. Jeffrey Smale considers a true privilege. Jeffrey began his career at South Western as an assistant principal at Emory H. Markle Intermediate School in 2009 where he worked for three years. In the summer of 2012, he was appointed the Principal at Baresville Elementary where he worked for four years before returning to EHMIS as the Principal prior to the start of the 2016-17 school year.
Before graduating with his Master’s in School Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2007, Jeffrey worked as a teacher for 10 years; the majority of which time was spent teaching sixth grade mathematics at Cedar Creek Middle School in the Research Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) of North Carolina. He also served as an assistant principal at Cedar Creek for two years, before he and his wife made the decision to move closer to their families in eastern Pennsylvania and Baltimore, Maryland. Jeffrey successfully completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration (Ed.D.) at Immaculata University in July of 2019.
In his free time, Jeffrey enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, fitness activities and attending college sporting events.
