Emory H. Markle Intermediate School Assistant Principal R.J. Long has been teaching and leading in a middle school environment for his entire career. A Pittsburgh native, R.J. graduated from Dickinson College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a Teaching Certificate in Secondary Social Studies Education. In 2010, he received his Master’s in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
From 2005 to 2014, R.J. taught eighth grade U.S. history at Quaker Valley Middle School in Sewickley, a suburb of Pittsburgh. He joined the South Western School District as a seventh grade world geography teacher at the start of the 2014 school year, and in 2016 he was hired as an assistant principal. R.J. feels that Emory H. Markle Intermediate School is truly a special place and he is proud to serve the students, staff, and parents of our school community.
